AUDI 75 1968

Building carefully on the success of the new 90 introduced in 1966, Audi started to expand its range.

The two and four door saloon versions were joined by a five-door estate to meet the growing demands for more space inside. Changes to the high-swirl engine gave more power from the 1.7 litres, with the 75 title referring to the DIN power output in bhp.

Audis of the period were unusual in using torsion bar independent suspension front and rear. But with a high proportion of the car's weight being carried over the front wheels, they did suffer from understeer when being driven quickly on twisting roads. The estate car, with its neatly sloping tailgate and big windows, accounted for a remarkably high percentage of sales.

The 75 range remained on sale until 1972.
